US Universities Seeking Transfer and International Students

In the 2015 NACAC State of Admission report, statistics highlighted efforts on the part of many universities to focus on recruiting these two populations.

Overall, for Canadians as well as other international students, this means you will find many more admission recruitment programs aimed at attracting you, along with beefed up student services for international students on their campuses. At some institutions, this may mean a boost in your chances of admission… especially if you are able and willing to pay a greater percentage of the cost to attend.

With regard to transfer admission, many public institutions in the US have long favoured admission of transfer students overall, and many – a significant 70% – have transfer admission agreements with community colleges in their geographic area. This is not yet a trend, however, for private colleges, and the elite, or most selective, private colleges do not share this approach.

But, if you are a Canadian applicant considering attending a community college, perhaps aiming to improve your preparation for university, or perhaps as a baseball player considering junior college recruitment, and you eventually want to attend a public university in the states, you may find this a path to consider. Just be careful to ask questions first, about whether transfer agreements do in fact exist for the community or junior college you are considering, and with which universities.
